It’s the big day that you’ve been dreaming of ever since you were a small girl and finally its here! But wait! You want to bring out your personality and make it your brand wedding, but don’t know exactly what to do?! First you have to be willing to step out of the box and put into action ideas that will speak volumes about you and the groom instead of the ordinary Kenyan wedding décor.
Think Color.
Do you have a favorite color? That’s a good place to start. This is something you can play around with. Every color has a meaning, and your color choices say something about your personalities. Let us have a look at some of the colors, shall we?
White
Ever since the Victorian times brides have been wearing white and it is now considered the traditional color for wedding dresses. It is a brilliant and bright color that symbolizes purity, cleanliness, and innocence. No wonder it stands out and many brides all over the world love it.
Ivory
Many brides are opting for ivory instead of white. Just like white, it represents quiet and pleasantness with a touch of luster. It is a soft neutral color with a touch of the earthiness of brown hues. It carries the same pureness, softness, and cleanliness of white but is slightly richer, a touch warmer.
Gold
It is a precious metal and the color is associated with wealth, prosperity and success. Gold is eye catching and lends richness and warmth to your color palette. It goes very well with earthy palettes of browns, orange or greens. Reds, burgundy and purple are warmed with hints of gold.
Silver
Silver, especially bright silver, is cool like grey but lively and playful. It is sleek and modern while still lending the feeling of riches. Adding silver to your wedding will bring glamour and make your day sparkle. This is a versatile color which pairs nicely with almost any color. It goes with black and white bringing out the colors without taking away from the design.
Black
The biggest advantage of black is it that it goes with almost any color except those with very deep hues. It is considered sexy and sophisticated, modern and elegant. Many weddings which are black-tie, give off the feelings of opulence and grandeur. It is one color that is not about to be phased out any time soon.
Red
Red is a strong, bold and passionate color. Very eye-catching and attention drawing, red is the hottest of the warm colors that can make your blood boil or ignite passion. In some cultures red represents purity, joy and celebration. In China for example, it is the color of happiness, prosperity and good luck. It would be a wonderful color for a Christmas or Valentines weddings.
Pink
Pink is the softer, sweeter side of red. It is a delicate color which symbolizes abundance, compassion and love. Pink roses symbolize grace, gentleness and joy. Pink can be warmed with gold or cooled when paired with silver.
Orange
This is a spontaneous, bold, daring and trendy color. It is inspirational and stimulating, yet warm and inviting and it is said that people who love orange love life! Orange is also the color of transition symbolizing a new life together.
Yellow
This is a warm color that represents happiness and joy. It is a symbol of hope. It is a very complimentary color that accents other colors and can still make an impact when done just alone.
Green
Green symbolizes life, growth, fertility, health and the environment. The amazing thing about green is it has a warming effect like yellow and a cooling effect like blue. It is a balanced harmonized color.
Blue
Blue is a tranquil, calm, peaceful, honest, trusting, and faithful color and is actually said to bring love and luck to weddings and in many religious beliefs it is believed to bring peace.
Purple
It is often associated with royalty and spirituality. It has both warm and cool elements. Deep or bright purples suggest riches and wealth, while lighter purples are more romantic and delicate. Purple in your wedding can also symbolize dignity, value, tolerance and togetherness. The good thing about this color is it has different shades that go well with many other colors.
Brown
Brown is a natural down to earth color that is warm and represents wholesomeness, dependability, friendliness, and steadfastness. Use shades of brown to represent the warmth and honesty of your marriage. This a beautiful color especially if you’re thinking more of an African wedding theme because it can be coupled with many other shades as it is a neutral tone.
Whatever your color choice, you should consider choosing a primary color with one or two accents. If you still have no idea what color to go for, look at things you love such as flowers, nature etc and you will definitely find something to work with.
