Wedding theme's are a celebration and culmination of a couple's interests, hobbies and favorites. In our adventures of wedding planning we have come across some interesting wedding ideas and have decided to compile a list of our favorite wedding theme ideas. We have divided wedding theme characteristics into three characteristics:
- Themes based on wedding colors
- Themes based on the bridal couple's personality.
- Themes based on scenes
Color themes:
When you decide to go for a color scheme, come up with a color scheme that blends beautifully. You can get expert advise on color blends from your wedding décor service provider or you can be inspired by your favorite blouse or painting! Whatever your inspiration the combination should make sense aesthetically and artistically i.e. the colors should flow.
So for color schemes the following theme color combinations passed our wedding planners mark:
Black & Pink: A combination of funky (because of the pink) and elegance (because of the black).
Black and pink is a combination rarely seen in the Kenyan wedding industry probably due to the stigma associated with the color black but we would recommend it to any out of the box bride.
Black & Gold: Black and gold is best suited for an afro centric theme. If you want chic African try black and gold. It is a beautiful and elaborate combination that can be used to incorporate cheetah or leopard prints into the wedding décor staying true to the African theme. Using gold accessories like vases, lamps, lanterns etc. add that chic component.
Color burst: Are you in love with color try going for a fruit burst multicolored theme mix and match bright colors purples, gold, greens. Please let your décor expert give you guidance on this. A color burst is especially good should you have a garden wedding theme. Be brave and let your wedding be a celebration of life, love and color.
Polkas and prints: Polka dots are timeless, prints are fabulous! Unfortunately locally very few couple's are willing to have either wedding themes. A polka dot theme normally is a combination of two colors e.g. pink and black, chocolate brown and baby blue. The whole wedding won’t be awash with polka dots, what we would recommend is having two solid colors and having polka dot accents.
For prints, have your linen, stationery, décor, cake have a similar print e.g. a monogram of your initials. This reduces the monotony of monochrome colors.
Personality themes:
Personality themes are based on the bride and groom's personalities. They are a blend of the bride and groom's characteristics. Personality themes are fun because they help create a signature and unique wedding style for each couple that would be identified only with them. The following are our top personality wedding themes;
Safari wedding theme: This is highly recommended for the adventurous couple who love spending time outdoors, have a love for nature and have camping as a favorite hobby. A safari wedding them can be held at a national park, a camping site and your color scheme would be a clever blend of jungle green and brown.
Museum wedding theme: Are both artsy, then a wedding / art exhibition wedding would be ideal. Have your favorite pieces of African artwork on display as part of the décor, have artistic inspired giveaways e.t.c.
Romantic wedding theme: Are you a bunch of hopeless romantics well why not have a valentine wedding theme inspired by St. Valentine himself. Have cupids in the air, walk on a carpet of roses and have the whole bridal party decked out in different shades of red.
Favorite's things wedding theme: Let your wedding be a celebration of your favorites from your favorite meal, to your favorite dating spot, your favorite music e.t.c. Have your wedding planner or wedding décor service provider create for you a wedding theme based on all your favorites, after all your wedding day should all be about you!
Scenic themes:
A scenic theme is one that draws inspiration from the wedding reception or ceremony venue. Taking inspiration from your venue is brilliant; this is because you needn't spend much on your wedding décor because your venue will complement the décor
