Your wedding is a celebration of love ensure you infuse love elements into it! Photo source:www.sxc.hu.

Are you feminine, sentimental, poetic, dreamy and into everything cute and nice? Then a romantic theme would set that perfect mood for your wedding. Being two different individuals with different tastes and personalities you can still infuse certain elements that will make it a beautiful, intimate and a romantic affair which I personally think every wedding should have. How? Read on and find out…………………………..

Ceremony

When it comes to the ceremony, infuse some personal and romantic elements such as have a couple that’s been married for the longest time to come up and give you a word of advice based on the art of marriage, love and commitment.

You can also write your own vows and look into each others eyes as you say them with some beautiful background music playing softly setting the mood right.

Something different would be to have a family member or friend recite a poem as you the bride walks down the aisle instead of the cliché ''here comes the bride''. You can ask that family member or friend to write that poem themselves about how they see your love for each other. Make sure you add a few words describing how you feel about each other as well. This will definitely see someone cry therefore be ready to hand over tissues!

For the groom he can hand over a small decorated chest box with money coins, jewellery, love notes, poems, chocolate etc symbolizing his commitment and support for her. This is something that normally happens in Mexican weddings where the groom gives the bride a small chest of gold coins known as the arras which symbolizes wealth and strength.

If your pocket can allow, you can give the bride three rings like the Swedish women wear which symbolize betrothal, marriage and motherhood. Have the Officiant include scriptures or messages for each ring.

Reception

To have a more romantic reception opt for an adult only and have it at night. Opt for a dinner reception rather than a lunch where the darkness will work well with lighting such as candles, tikki torches, fire places, fairy lights, lamps etc.

You can have it in a lush private garden even at a friend’s house or hotel. Have the lighting soft, use gauzy fabrics that bring out a romantic feel and make sure if it is outdoors that it is warm enough. Have fire places made in form of bonfires.

A sweet idea would be to surprise your groom or bride with a video footage or audio message from relatives who could not make it to the wedding due to certain circumstances such as being abroad and can’t make it or in hospital. Have them record a sweet message and blessing to him or her. Have it played in a monitor or projector with nice background music.

For a grand exit, instead of exiting the same old boring way, if money is not an issue surprise your wife with a new car as your departure car all decorated without her knowledge then let her know that it is a gift from you. She will be so happy and surprised.

Instead of the high table have a love table where it is just the two of you wining and dining away as you look into each other’s eyes. How romantic is that?

Flowers

Flowers always add that hint of romance therefore do not feel limited to a number. Play around with as many as you heart pleases, not only will it look good but smell good as well. Used wisely, roses can look so chic and bring out that lovey dovey feeling. However do not be restricted to roses use flowers in any romantic colors such as pink, red and soft orange.

For example you can opt for tulips, hydrangea, ivy's, baby breaths, delphiniums, gerberas, calla lilies etc. make sure you go for flowers that are in season since you will be assured that they will be cheaper and fresh.

Music

To set that mood right for you, your groom and the guests have everyone in mind when coming up with a play list or settling for a band so everyone can enjoy the music. For that romantic mood, you can have a playlist of your favorite love songs as a couple then you can have a general playlist that will cover a wide range of different music genres.

If you will be having a live band or DJ make it possible to have live performances of your favorite songs by the band or have your guests have their requests played.

For your first dance, dance to a song that you both love and signifies your love or relationship. The DJ can also do a remix of songs that signify certain periods or moments in your relationship. For example, a song you heard during your first date etc.

Surprise each other by singing for each other

Invitations

Use informal and personal wordings for requesting your guests to come share that special day with you. Make it fun and sweet like a love letter by having a calligrapher do the wordings especially if your guest count is low. Incorporate ribbons and embellishments to make it look classy.

Menus

Before you do these consider the type of guests you will be having as it includes having aphrodisiacs in the menu. For example asparagus, almonds etc and for dessert have chocolate covered strawberries.

You can also come up with a love menu where you include your favorite dishes. You can have certain things like Chapati shaped in love hearts etc.

When it comes to the drinks have mocktails and cocktails. Serve champagne and wine if you can.

Favors

Show your appreciation by giving your guests love heart shaped cookies, candy, chocolates etc in love heart containers or boxes with a sweet message.

You can also have the DJ burn CDs of the playlist then give to every guest, they will never forget that special day.

Do not limit yourself to having a garden wedding rather you can have it in other romantic spots such as a roof top of a building, beach, restaurant, boat, cruise ship etc. Use your wedding to show that special person that you can go that extra mile to show how you feel about them.

Now that you have an idea, go and have that beautiful romantic wedding!

Amazing article, i think the magic to a wedding is lighting its so romantic hence am thinking of an evening ceremony then a night dinner reception but am a bit worried of the photo session which would have to be done at dusk, also do you have any ideas on unique spots in Nairobi for the night reception as you have mentioned roof tops? Keep up the good work Waridi team!

Hi Anne Marie, thanks for the complements. You can have a pre-wedding photo session if you are not into the whole tradition about the groom not seeing the bride before wedding day. If you are not for the pre-wedding photo session you can always request your photographer to carry lighting to enable him to take night shots or you can have your photo session in a beautiful lit room like a ballroom e.t.c. Now for the rooftops, kindly get in touch with us at wanjiku@waridikenya.com we shall be able to assist you accordingly.
