Also known as the love table, or couples table, the sweetheart table is a new entry into the wedding decor scene and is fast becoming a trendy, classy, love addition in Kenyan wedding receptions. Before i go on and on about the sweetheart table i must begin by defining it!
The sweetheart table is a table that is designed separately from the wedding guest tables, specifically for the bride and groom at the reception. It is designed as a romantic spot for the new Mr & Mrs to share their first intimate moments together as a couple but at the same time enjoy the company of friends and family. There has always been a hightable in all the weddings that i have attended since time in memorial. In fact till recently all the weddings i have attended have always had a high table with an exception of one, where the bride and groom were totally non-traditional and actually sat in as part of the wedding guests. So when i first came across the concept of a sweetheart table and actually implemented it, it has been a constant addition in all our weddings hence the inspiration for this article.
4 Fabulous reasons why you should ditch the high table for a sweetheart table:
No 4. Intimacy: Weddings are meant to be lovey dovey ( hope i got the spelling right :-)) affair. You are meant to stare at each others eyes, bask in each others brilliance and tell each other nice things and dont forget flirt shamelessly. Well imagine doing all that and having the whole hightable stare at you giving you! The sweetheart tables give you the privacy you need as a couple to share little private jokes and share each others company on this special day. For the bridal party members the sweetheart table allows them to have a break from bridal party duty and spend time with their significant others or their invited friends.
No 3.Table for two: A sweetheart table allows you to customise and infuse your style into your wedding decor. You can design it to be a celebration of both of you. You can have jars of your favorite dessert, or better still you can have your wedding caterer whip up something special for just the two of you, this litle extra additions should only cost you something small. Think picture frames with your engagement pictures, assorted love letters, your favorite scented candles e.t.c for your sweetheart table decor. Have little knick knacks that are special to both of you and that represent your style on your sweetheart table.
No 2.Centre of attraction: All eyes will definetely be on you, they need to be you are the star in your own wedding production. Well a sweetheart table gives you the best opportunity for all your wedding guests to take great photography shots of both of you. Being at the centre gives your guests and wedding photographer a good view. Should the program permit you can also have guests pose for photos with you at your sweetheart table.
No 1.Trendy: Normal becomes a boring after a while and as they say, a change is as good as a rest. The sweetheart table will be a beautiful addition for your wedding reception layout, It can be setup on stage or placed in the middle of the wedding guest tables bringing a little creative twist to your wedding reception layout. So kiss goodbye the hightable say hello to the love or sweetheart table.
To have or not to have the sweetheart table:
Use the following tips to decide whether having a sweetheart table would be ideal:
A small guest count. If you have a guest count of less than 250 wedding guests then it would be a great option to consider. The sweetheart table is smaller than the other guest tables so it would be ideal to have it when you have a few guest tables set up.
An indoor wedding: If you have a wedding in a ballroom, or a marquee you will have plenty of space to work with so creating a dramatic sweetheart table to be the focal point would be a beautiful addition. Consider having the sweetheart table set inside a floral huppah or mounted on a stage so that you can be seen by all the wedding guests.
Your bridal party count: If you have a large bridal party out fit consider setting your sweetheart table and having the rest of the bridal party tables set behind yours.
Your wedding decor budget: for your sweetheart table you would require the following:
A semi-circular / love shaped table
Linen in your decor colors.
A simple floral arrangement.
Knick knacks like wedding photo's, special desserts e.t.c.
In terms of the actual cost of the sweetheart table would cost you:
1000/= for the semi-circular table and linen.
3000/= for the floral garland decoration.
200/= for the draped & covered seats.
So you would need to budget an additional 4200/= to your decor budget.
