Traditionally, weddings grace the centre of tables with a decorative item. Usually it is beautifully arranged flowers or mesh fabric that is haphazardly but decoratively spread across the centre of the table. These have become quite ubiquitous and mundane; how about giving centerpieces a new life!!

One centerpiece? But why?

Although weddings usually have only one centerpiece per table, there is no rule that says you can’t have plenty. If you are about to fall off your seat upon hearing that, relax and hear this: You can gather a set of similar objects and cluster them decoratively at the centre of the table to form a unique centerpiece. An example is a collection of mementos dear to the bride and groom, or miniature picture frames facing different directions containing pictures of the bride and groom. If you are going to have flowers as your centerpiece, how about having a collection of small arrangements instead of just one? This can look especially grand if your wedding consists of two colors, you can have a collection of small arrangements in those colors. You can also play around with the height of the vases containing the flowers to give a delightful effect.

Versatile Sculptures

Sculptures can also serve as centerpieces; just they are used to decorate the home. Sculptures take many forms and are very suitable for themed weddings. An African themed wedding can be enhanced by a sculpture of a Maasai Moran at the centre of the table for instance. Ballroom ceremonies can benefit from a sculpture of a dancing ballerina. Ice sculptures, though unconventional, can be very eye-catching. They can be carved into any design to make attractive centerpieces.

Fruits and Vegetables

Garden weddings are very popular these days but the concept of the ‘garden’ is not fully engaged in the weddings. Flowers are not the only things that grow in gardens! Fruits and vegetables make an excellent choice for a centerpiece in a garden-themed wedding. They come in an array of colors to suit any colour scheme and if properly watered, they can remain fresh for several hours. Spices such as garlic can be clustered together on an oasis to form an attractive centerpiece. One can also incorporate fruits and vegetables in flower arrangements for a more garden feel. You can match the colors of the flower and vegetable such as using purple flowers with purple fruits and vegetables such as grapes or egg plant. Baby pineapples can even be spray painted with bright colors like gold and silver and incorporated into a flower arrangement.

Flowery Possibilities

Still hooked onto flower power? Never fear; there are still ways to have traditional flower centerpieces with an edgy look. Instead of having just one or two types of flowers, how about displaying a variety of flowers? One can even go wild and have many different colors of flowers instead of one or two colors. Even more daring would be to have a potted flower instead of an arrangement! Flower pots are available in a variety of colors and designs and can therefore be part of the décor. Moreover, you could move away from the roses and the lilies and choose unconventional flowers such as sunflowers and tulips to form your centerpiece.

Stun

Get creative when picking your centerpieces. If you, like a lot of couples, would like to leave a mark on your guests’ minds, then try thinking out of the box. You’ve got some ideas now to get you started. Have fun!
