You dreamt of it as a child, walking down the aisle in the splendour of a Princess to say ‘I do’ to your Prince charming, then riding off to happily ever after. Now, it’s time to make the dream come true with your very own fairytale wedding. Decor will play a big role in executing the fairytale wedding theme, so turn on the magic, let your imagination run wild and live your fantasy.

Where to start

If you can find a good ballroom or if you’re lucky, a castle, you will be well on your way. A room with regal curtains, sparkly chandeliers or enchanting lighting will do the trick. Use drapes, plenty of them, for your tables and chairs to set the stage. Go for luxurious linen or generous amounts of puffy fabric in bows, tiebacks and ribbon to create the air of fantasy. You may tie bells or dangling lights where the fabric is gathered. Pastels such as pink, ivory white, yellow, lavender, blue or green are ideal colours for your fairytale wedding.

Grand entrance

Create a stately entry point at your wedding ceremony or reception with a spiral staircase or an elaborate arch decorated with flowers, bows and ribbons. Remember that all important red carpet and rose petals to pave the way for the Princess and her Prince.

Stately centerpieces

Tiny centrepieces just won’t do for a fairytale wedding. Size and pomp is the name of the game. Grand sculptures of castles, Cinderella’s glass slipper or a horse and carriage make for good centrepieces. You may also use tall vases filled with dramatic floral arrangements or clear glass cylinders with floating candles. Sculptures of paired swans or birds are appropriate centrepieces too. Add on ribbons, pearls or even ‘magic wands’ and your wedding will scream ‘fairytale’.

Flowering dreams

Nothing outdoes the rose when it comes to dream weddings, mostly in red, pink or white. There other flowers that suit the theme, such as orchids, ivy, stephanotis, irises, peonies and tulips. Whichever flowers you pick, use plenty of them.

Accessories

There are numerous additional elements that you can throw in to complete the fairytale wedding theme. Have your ring pillows embellished with lace and ribbons, let candles light the moment or place chimes at various points of your venue. Have your cake decorated to match the fairytale theme with bows, ribbons, lights, roses or pearls. The cake topper can be a glass sculpture of an elegant bride and groom, Cinderella or a miniature castle, glass slipper or horse and carriage. Complement your decor by having your guests served in sparkling silverware or china. Don’tforget to supply lots of confetti, rose petals or glitter spray for some magical fun after the ceremony.

Dreams do come true

When all is said and done, relax and enjoy your day as princess and may you and your prince live happily ever after.
